Terminator: Genisys review by The Character Queen

(WARNING, contains spoilers!)

Since I was a baby, and I mean baby, Arnold and his movies have always been a part of my life.
Baby me was mega easily entertained by him, probably because he reminded me of my dad.
I LOVED his movies, but especially the Terminator films.
So yeah, I'm a pretty big Terminator fan.
Seeing the newest one as a full-fledged 20 year old with my mom and pops, a series that I've loved since my baby years, was quite the 'wow' experience. I felt old.
Same thing with Jurassic World.
My generation didn't go to the theaters to see the originals, we just watched the movies as either VHS' or DVDs. And we grew up with them and came to love them.
Then long-awaited sequels come about.
And suddenly you're an adult, going to the theater, seeing the series you grew up with, maybe you have a kid or two of your own, and a new generation of fans springs up.
It's pretty amazing, in my book.

So yeah, seeing Terminator was really special to me.
I liked the last one with Christian Bale, it was pretty good. The third one I choose to not even speak of.
But this one was just pure awesomeness.

First of all, the casting. The casting was half of perfect.

Having Arnold was a must.

Emilia Clarke made a PERFECT Sarah Connor. Seriously, sometimes, she looked just like her.
This was actually the first time I've seen anything from her and Jai Courtney, and they're pretty good actors.

Now Jai, I probably would've gone with someone who looked a little more like Michael Biehn.
But Jai did a really good job with what he had and made a convincing Kyle.

Jason Clarke also did a pretty good job as John Connor.
My parents were the most effected by his casting. I honestly have never cared who they pick for John, so it didn't faze me. My favorite portrayal of him will always be the Edward Furlong one, but I guess that's just because I've watched that one since I was a mini-me.

Now for the terminators.

THE ASIAN TERMINATOR.
I need him back, because he was awesome. I was really expecting him to show up again near the end or even at the part where they went down to the time machine.
I was rather disappointed he didn't turn up again, cuz his appearance was rather brief.
So hopefully they bring him back for the sequel they have promised me.
Lee Byung-hun made a pretty cold and callous T-1000 and that pleases me.
I loved him as Storm Shadow....and that was pretty much the only thing I could carry any knowledge of him by when I walked into the theater. XDDD
I was all like, "STORM SHADOW IS A TERMINATOR, BWA BWA BWA"

And no, I will not talk about the Arnold terminator, not yet.

The John terminator.
Ok, ok, ok.
Love it or hate it, I loved the concept. Turning humans into terminators was a brilliant twist in the Skynet department and I hope they explore that more in the future.
John made a rather good villain in his own right. Especially because he was Sarah's son and all and had all that knowledge of her. It's like...crap. My son is the villain.
The robotic part of him looked awesome and I want more of it. XD
What would be cooler with it, though, is if they brought John back and reprogrammed him so that he fights with the others. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE AWESOMENESS.
Him and the Guardian can like, do so much coolness together, ugh. I would love that.
GRANDPA AND GRANDSON BATTLE PARTNERSHIP.
DO YOU HEAR ME.
I NEED THIS.

Now for Skynet.
The actual legit embodiment of Skynet.
A.K.A. Matt Smith.
A.K.A. Doctor freaking Who.
That would've made an excellent crossover joke, btw.
John: Doctor!
Skynet: Doctor who?
yes, yes..

That was a clever twist, what they did with him.
People were critical of his portrayal and his accent, but I think he did an excellent job with both.
And am I the only one finding any humor out've him being Skynet and dealing with time machines and basically not being HUMAN again??
In his beginning stage, they showed him as a type of hologram, but in the future, he's pretty fleshy.
So something obviously happens there.
I hope he reprises his role. It was brief, but I think it served as more of a cameo or, rather, an introduction.
And he was all like, "I was the Doctor. Now I'm Skynet. Deal with it."

And they pretty much added all the main terminators in this, too.
So if you're a fan of one from the other movies, you're bound to see a good amount of them in this one.

Now, for the O'Brien character. I loved what they did with that bit.
I knew there had to be a reason why they let him lived in the past. At first, I thought, "Why are you leaving him behind?! He'll be killed!", but the Asian Terminator wound up not touching him.
So when his older portrayal turned up, my initial thought was that he was future Silberman, who my parents and I have complete disgust over, but nope. I payed attention to the dialogue between the cops in 1984 and noted the name "O'Brien", so when the agents called the detective "O'Brien", I was like, "AHA!"
iz the cop. And having him in there, helping them, was pretty cool. ^_^

As for the movie itself, it was so good. Pay no attention to the people who seriously are not pleased with ANYTHING. Every time a new movie or anything comes out, I swear, I always hear such criticism of it and it's like, guys, seriously, shut up. Enjoy something for once in your life.
I loved this one. I wouldn't love it if it was a total disaster. It was certainly an improvement of the third one we shall not speak of.
The plot and everything was GOOD. They totally pulled a Star Trek, too, and altered the timeline and everything so that now, it's like a reboot, but not. Now they have the freedom to do as they please.
I saw it more as a second chance for characters. (well...except poor John)
The Arnold character is basically like the one from Terminator 2 and that one died, and this one sort've died, but didn't. And Sarah Connor had a screwed up life and had her head messed up because of all the crap humans put her through, but in this, she didn't have to go through all that because the Arnold Terminator protected her. Granted, she lost her parents when she shouldn't have, but still..
And Kyle. I mean, dude, he's famous for being Sarah's squeeze that died.
But here, he has another go at life and can live and I love that.

Now...
THE PART I DIDN'T WANNA SPEAK OF, BUT HAVE TO, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SARAH AND THE ARNOLD TERMINATOR WAS COOL, BUT NOT COOL.
Cool because, it was mega tons of sweet and basically a recurrence of what John had with the one sent to protect him and the father-daughter thing was just fantastic and well handled.
BUT....NOT COOL BECAUSE IT'S LEGIT LIKE MY DAD AND I AND I WAS NOT AMUSED.
It's like they stalked us.
Remember that bit about baby-me growing up with Terminator and the part where Arnold reminded me of my dad? SEE, yeah. Sarah is first of all a Sarah and they toughened her up and she was awesome and my parents state she's like me. And then the Arnold character is so totally my dad.
And then he winds up protecting her and raising her and did you see all the little pictures and the drawings he had up? Ok, MY DAD RIGHT THERE.
And let's get something straight here, you dO NOT COPY PET NAMES LIKE POPS THAT I GIVE TO MY DAD, HOW DARE YOU.
and at the end when he says, "my Sarah", WHAT THE CRAP IS THAT ABOUT.
yes, I cried.
I tried not to, but I cried.
stupid stalking film makers.

The parts also with young Kyle was so beyond amusing, and I laughed when him and his parents examined older Kyle and were all like, "We've never seen before, but he looks familiar". XDDD
Time travel nonsense at it's best.
And I personally found the bit where Sarah helped out young Kyle pretty cool.
I always love it in time traveling situations, where two characters who love eachother come across eachother's younger selves and it's like, "You're gonna marry them someday". ;P
I don't know why, it just amuses me greatly.
Especially at the part where young Kyle's all like, "I like her." And older Kyle was like, "Yeah, me too."
I laughed. Such humor.

Now for the little parental guidance bit.
If you're planning to see it and would like to know about these things, I shall tell you..
As far as I know (since I left briefly to go to the b-room during the helicopter scene), it had only one f word and that was when the original Arnold terminator approached the three punks.
In the same sentence, he says 'a-hole'.

There are frequent uses of  the s word, but not too many times and not all at once, they're a bit scattered.
The most notable times is when the T-1000 and Kyle are in the same room as Sarah and she has to choose which one is Kyle and she says it I think twice there.
Kyle uses it after dealing with a terminator close to the same time as that scene.
And there are a few g-d's, one said by the FBI agent when questioning Sarah and Kyle in the hospital, then a couple in the same sentence said by O'Brien when he looks into a security camera room.
I'm sure there are more things said, like frequent h words and probably a couple more s', but those are the most prominent that I mentioned. I can't really remember the rest.

Since in this version of time-traveling everyone has to be..ahem..nude, the characters WILL be without clothes. And Sarah also has a go at it this time.
But for the most part, you barely see anything and what parts you would visibly see, things are darkened.
They were pretty discreet with the matter.

And of course, there's lots of robotic violence and a lot of shooting, but nothing gets too gory.
It's the usual stuff in a Terminator film. ;P

That's all I can really say. I seriously loved it and found it to be a perfect summer film if you love lots of action and explosions. Plus it's a great new addition to the Terminator family.
I would give it a rating of 8/10. If you question my rating, I don't care. I loved it and I give things I love good ratings. XDDD

Now stop lingering here and go see it, you fools!!

Pan trailer #1...

Am I the only one excited for this?

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAqrhwXw-bOk9ZU00C-6yyczzvIyw1iXTUlMCiw9ZeJLwHKcvJ81CHQC1PmVmNKRwIZOt7hrOHLZbCK19UM9JJpqqmhO1IkL-eMyQUCDMnWsf3h4A4GA3OEcA6MHa-zgkvnxrBctGwsg/s1600/A68DD3A47E01C7B2E7AD972B4EA2415D.png

Suicide Squad first look...

Not that long ago, the first trailer for Suicide Squad was released.
Thought I'd share it cuz I know a lot of people are excited to see it and some are trying to track it down quickly. And I wanted to voice a little of my opinion on things without you guys wondering what in the heck I was talking about.

I'm just a smidge, A SMIDGE, impressed with the portrayals of the characters. I'm still not completely sold on Harley, but the Joker looks pretty sick and just *might* be a good younger portrayal.
Nevertheless, I'm still not seeing the movie, but I am slightly impressed with the way everyone's being handled. The trailer is also put together rather well.
And I most definitely have to find the song. It's so dark and creepy and I love it. XDDD

What do you guys think? Will you be seeing it next year? I'll be a full-fledged 21 year old by then and be doing lots of adulting, so who knows with me.. I might see it just for the heck of it. With more trailers and pics and everything, my feelings will possibly change.
All I know now is that I'm at an impressed stage, but that's all.

Anyway, comment and tell us what you think!

(BTW, my Terminator: Genisys review is coming soon!)

John C. Reilly confirms return for Wreck-It Ralph sequel...

Ok, so I already knew this was coming. As soon as I got back home from seeing the first one at the theater (a good memory, btw, seeing it with my nephew and sister), I read the wikipedia up and saw that they were already planning for a sequel, which I'm totally glad for. ♥
I loved the first one to bits. I'll be honest, I'm a sucker for video game movies, no matter how terrible the storyline and acting might be for it. I mean, c'mon, the only reason I'm going to go see Pixels when it comes out is because there is a video game storyline. ;P
But no, they did really good on this one. :)

I'm hoping they add in more actual vg characters. The cameos in the first were perfectly done, I just honestly want to support people giving vg characters larger roles in films. I really want people to get more into video games. They're so amazing, you don't even know. And the amount of feels and characters and stories people miss all the time breaks my heart! )8

Anyway, as a little update, they're talking about Disney being in discussions with Nintendo over licensing for characters like Mario, Luigi, Link, etc. As well as expanding roles for villains like Bowser and General Bison.

Besides that, I'm glad to hear he's coming back for the role! He did a great job as Ralph!
I also hope Vanellope comes back, too, cuz she was amazing. <3 XDDDD

Anyone else a Wreck-It Ralph fan?

Tom Holland as Spider-Man announcement..

I'm sorry, I'm sure this kid is a good actor and everything, but I just do not look at him and think "Spider-Man". This is hogwash.

AND WHAT'S THIS ABOUT MARISA TOMEI PLAYING AUNT MAY, WHAT?
COULD MARVEL GET THINGS ANY MORE WRONG?

Thanks, Marvel, for ruining the Captain America movie for me even more than it already was. T_T

Bat-film love interests: 1989-1995

Watching the four Bat films over again, I suddenly became inspired to write an article about Bruce's love interests. Don't ask me, I dunno. I just felt compelled to talk about their characters and tell you which one I think was the best for Bruce.

Vicki Vale

Compared to many damsel-in-distress love interests in the early super hero world, Vicki was a pretty authentic character. She wasn't annoying in any way. She was the average woman, dating a rich, mysterious guy, while trying to do her job accurately as a journalist.
Unlike many characters of her type, I could tolerate her. She didn't overact on things.
When she was around the Joker, the majority of the time, she played it cool.
She showed the appropriate amount of emotion and instinct that others usually don't.
You know..how most damsels scream and freak out and practically get themselves caught just to be saved by the hero in the nick of time.

With all she had to put up with, I think she faced her circumstances like a trooper.
She's beautiful, smart, resourceful, caring and pretty good at her job.
But, is she the right match for Bruce? Probably not.

While they had a good enough chemistry in their relationship, albeit a very rushed one, I definitely couldn't see her as a person he'd stick around with for very long.
She'd probably do good with maybe someone from law enforcement, a lawyer or even another journalist.
But a match for the Bat, she is not.
That doesn't stop me from loving her character, though. :)

So, to sum up Vicki Vale, she was a well done, genuine character and a suitable love interest...just not for Batman. I would give her a rating of 7/10

Selina Kyle

I've always been a huge Bat-Cat fan for like..ever.
So I'm in honest automatic support of Selina and Bruce being a couple.
BUT.
I'm also being honest, right? And I gotta be a good judge of them as a whole.

I seriously loved the way her character was developed. It was an amazing transformation from Selina Kyle to Catwoman. She starts out as a lonely, ordinary executive assistant (...ahem....secretary) who is rather unimportant in the eyes of everyone else, and even sometimes herself.
She's unappreciated and dominated by those around her, including her own mother, who expects a lot more from her daughter, which no doubt has lowered Selina's self-esteem.
She's a hard worker and makes one of heck of a cup of coffee. But within her lurks ideas and opinions of her own that she at times tries to get out to feel important, but they unfortunately always go unnoticed.
So she does the only thing she knows best; retreat back into hiding and be what everyone expects of her..which isn't much.
In the brief glimpse we have of her home, she's rather of a child at heart and a bit of a girly girl, her walls painted pink, her shelves decorated with stuffed animals, serving as a personal hotel manager for various stray cats. She's your average lady, desperate for some love and attention, but not getting the appreciation she so rightly deserves.

Then the night comes, on her way from work, where during her frightful encounter with one of Penguin's clown minions, that she is rescued by Batman. But he, too, doesn't seem that impressed with the lonely secretary and walks away.
Long story short, her being under-appreciated and unimportant takes it's tole when her boss murders her, merely because she made an accidental discovery of his plans.
Then it happens. The cats she loves so revive her and she is brought back from death, with a renewed purpose and outlook on life. Something within her awakens, drastically changing her personality..her confidence...her spirit. She trashes her home, spray-painting everything black, all while in a screaming fit.
No longer able to take being the old Selina..to be looked down on by everyone..she becomes someone new. She breaks out of her shell and opens herself up to whole new, dangerous possibilities.
As a product of this transformation..Catwoman is born.

Her and Bruce's chemistry is amazing. Bruce immediately takes notice of Selina's new confidence and independence and the two instantly hit it off.
Their relationship isn't too rushed, however. It takes a little time and they get a little closer with each encounter. But you can tell the two really do have a spark between them.
Unfortunately, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the two together, it's pretty clear by the end of the movie that the two won't last. Starting out with 9 lives, Selina now has only 1 and she chooses to spend it alone.
While her transformation really opened a lot up for Selina and she came out of a life of loneliness and depression..it also made her do things she winds up regretting.
As she states, she wouldn't be able to live with herself entering a real relationship with Bruce, living a fairytale. But really, with her revenge complete on the man who murdered her..what else would Selina live for? Bruce and Selina rocked as a couple, even more so while they were in costume. But in all honesty, Selina wouldn't be able to carry a public relationship with Bruce in the state she was in.

So, to give Selina's character a review, she's a beautiful, clever, intriguing, very self efficient woman, that rocks as a love interest for Bats. They're perfect for one another, just tragically have to be apart.
I would give her a 9/10

Dr. Chase Meridian

While I don't intend to trash her and make her seem like a terrible character, Chase is probably my least favorite of the love interests.
She does have many good qualities to her character and she's likable enough, but her character is much too over-sexualized and she just comes across as too direct, which makes her seem..well, too direct.

One of her good qualities is her clever intellect and fascination of Batman.
And that she has a pretty good judge of character, as well as a personality that at first comes off a little stuck-up, but eventually winds up charming.

One of her annoying qualities is the constant struggle she has over Batman and Bruce. She immediately gets smitten over one, then gets smitten over the other, and for awhile she can't choose, so she's just stuck.
It's like a love triangle, but with the same guy.
Another of her good qualities is the ability to keep her head when she is kidnapped and not be screaming her head off the entire time, a trait she shares with Vicki. The time she did scream is when she was falling to her death, which I can't blame her for. But, the main point is, she gets kidnapped rather easily.
Despite seeing her train in her office, you have to wonder, what is the training really for?
Cuz it sure doesn't do her much good.

I do tolerate her and like her well enough, though. If it wasn't for her throwing herself at Batman and Bruce so directly and the fact that she can't make up her mind which part of him she wants to be with, she would be a pretty good character.
But despite that, there's not much more of her personality to judge on. It just seems like they were trying to make the stereotypical "sexy bad girl" that Bruce hung around with for awhile and not a real match for Bruce, even though they tried to make it sound like she was the right one for him.

So, to sum up her character, she's smart, pretty, charming and level-headed, but she's not a good match for Bruce and has too much of an inappropriate, cliche flare. My final rating is 6/10

Well, there you have it! :)
Out of all three of the girls, I would have to say that Selina was by far my favorite, as she always will be. ♥
I hope you enjoyed the post. Thanks for taking the time to read!
So, comment and tell me your opinions of who you think was the best match for Bruce. :D

where r u, geek week?

Have been looking everywhere, trying to find when this year's Geek Week is, and I'm afraid I might've missed it. :( I know they held it a couple years ago (when I first found out about such a week) around August, but I'm seeing no specified date for it this year.
I hope they didn't let the matter die off, cuz I absolutely LOVED the concept. <3

If the date doesn't turn up, I'll do my own Geek Week at my own time.
And you know I'll be telling my peeps over at the Character World to join in! ^_^

I really wanna get back into blogging and articles and stuff.
So when I do participate in this year's Geek Week, I'm gonna lay out a good set of topics to work with!

Seriously though, if anyone knows of a specified date or if they had it already, please let me know!
