Bat-film love interests: 1989-1995

Watching the four Bat films over again, I suddenly became inspired to write an article about Bruce's love interests. Don't ask me, I dunno. I just felt compelled to talk about their characters and tell you which one I think was the best for Bruce.

Vicki Vale

Compared to many damsel-in-distress love interests in the early super hero world, Vicki was a pretty authentic character. She wasn't annoying in any way. She was the average woman, dating a rich, mysterious guy, while trying to do her job accurately as a journalist.
Unlike many characters of her type, I could tolerate her. She didn't overact on things.
When she was around the Joker, the majority of the time, she played it cool.
She showed the appropriate amount of emotion and instinct that others usually don't.
You know..how most damsels scream and freak out and practically get themselves caught just to be saved by the hero in the nick of time.

With all she had to put up with, I think she faced her circumstances like a trooper.
She's beautiful, smart, resourceful, caring and pretty good at her job.
But, is she the right match for Bruce? Probably not.

While they had a good enough chemistry in their relationship, albeit a very rushed one, I definitely couldn't see her as a person he'd stick around with for very long.
She'd probably do good with maybe someone from law enforcement, a lawyer or even another journalist.
But a match for the Bat, she is not.
That doesn't stop me from loving her character, though. :)

So, to sum up Vicki Vale, she was a well done, genuine character and a suitable love interest...just not for Batman. I would give her a rating of 7/10

Selina Kyle

I've always been a huge Bat-Cat fan for like..ever.
So I'm in honest automatic support of Selina and Bruce being a couple.
BUT.
I'm also being honest, right? And I gotta be a good judge of them as a whole.

I seriously loved the way her character was developed. It was an amazing transformation from Selina Kyle to Catwoman. She starts out as a lonely, ordinary executive assistant (...ahem....secretary) who is rather unimportant in the eyes of everyone else, and even sometimes herself.
She's unappreciated and dominated by those around her, including her own mother, who expects a lot more from her daughter, which no doubt has lowered Selina's self-esteem.
She's a hard worker and makes one of heck of a cup of coffee. But within her lurks ideas and opinions of her own that she at times tries to get out to feel important, but they unfortunately always go unnoticed.
So she does the only thing she knows best; retreat back into hiding and be what everyone expects of her..which isn't much.
In the brief glimpse we have of her home, she's rather of a child at heart and a bit of a girly girl, her walls painted pink, her shelves decorated with stuffed animals, serving as a personal hotel manager for various stray cats. She's your average lady, desperate for some love and attention, but not getting the appreciation she so rightly deserves.

Then the night comes, on her way from work, where during her frightful encounter with one of Penguin's clown minions, that she is rescued by Batman. But he, too, doesn't seem that impressed with the lonely secretary and walks away.
Long story short, her being under-appreciated and unimportant takes it's tole when her boss murders her, merely because she made an accidental discovery of his plans.
Then it happens. The cats she loves so revive her and she is brought back from death, with a renewed purpose and outlook on life. Something within her awakens, drastically changing her personality..her confidence...her spirit. She trashes her home, spray-painting everything black, all while in a screaming fit.
No longer able to take being the old Selina..to be looked down on by everyone..she becomes someone new. She breaks out of her shell and opens herself up to whole new, dangerous possibilities.
As a product of this transformation..Catwoman is born.

Her and Bruce's chemistry is amazing. Bruce immediately takes notice of Selina's new confidence and independence and the two instantly hit it off.
Their relationship isn't too rushed, however. It takes a little time and they get a little closer with each encounter. But you can tell the two really do have a spark between them.
Unfortunately, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the two together, it's pretty clear by the end of the movie that the two won't last. Starting out with 9 lives, Selina now has only 1 and she chooses to spend it alone.
While her transformation really opened a lot up for Selina and she came out of a life of loneliness and depression..it also made her do things she winds up regretting.
As she states, she wouldn't be able to live with herself entering a real relationship with Bruce, living a fairytale. But really, with her revenge complete on the man who murdered her..what else would Selina live for? Bruce and Selina rocked as a couple, even more so while they were in costume. But in all honesty, Selina wouldn't be able to carry a public relationship with Bruce in the state she was in.

So, to give Selina's character a review, she's a beautiful, clever, intriguing, very self efficient woman, that rocks as a love interest for Bats. They're perfect for one another, just tragically have to be apart.
I would give her a 9/10

Dr. Chase Meridian

While I don't intend to trash her and make her seem like a terrible character, Chase is probably my least favorite of the love interests.
She does have many good qualities to her character and she's likable enough, but her character is much too over-sexualized and she just comes across as too direct, which makes her seem..well, too direct.

One of her good qualities is her clever intellect and fascination of Batman.
And that she has a pretty good judge of character, as well as a personality that at first comes off a little stuck-up, but eventually winds up charming.

One of her annoying qualities is the constant struggle she has over Batman and Bruce. She immediately gets smitten over one, then gets smitten over the other, and for awhile she can't choose, so she's just stuck.
It's like a love triangle, but with the same guy.
Another of her good qualities is the ability to keep her head when she is kidnapped and not be screaming her head off the entire time, a trait she shares with Vicki. The time she did scream is when she was falling to her death, which I can't blame her for. But, the main point is, she gets kidnapped rather easily.
Despite seeing her train in her office, you have to wonder, what is the training really for?
Cuz it sure doesn't do her much good.

I do tolerate her and like her well enough, though. If it wasn't for her throwing herself at Batman and Bruce so directly and the fact that she can't make up her mind which part of him she wants to be with, she would be a pretty good character.
But despite that, there's not much more of her personality to judge on. It just seems like they were trying to make the stereotypical "sexy bad girl" that Bruce hung around with for awhile and not a real match for Bruce, even though they tried to make it sound like she was the right one for him.

So, to sum up her character, she's smart, pretty, charming and level-headed, but she's not a good match for Bruce and has too much of an inappropriate, cliche flare. My final rating is 6/10

Well, there you have it! :)
Out of all three of the girls, I would have to say that Selina was by far my favorite, as she always will be. ♥
I hope you enjoyed the post. Thanks for taking the time to read!
So, comment and tell me your opinions of who you think was the best match for Bruce. :D

Grimm S4: Episode 9 REVIEW

If you guys don't already know, I and my parents are huge fans of the TV show called "Grimm", which is a supernatural, crime-edition, fairytale show that sticks extremely close to the gory content of the Brothers Grimm tales.
(Though the 1st season was probably the heaviest as far as gore goes, the seasons following have their moments from time-to-time)
Well, considering the season came back on last night and it was massively nail-biting, I thought it was appropriate for me to give a little review of the show.

WARNING, this post will be containing spoilers, so if you haven't seen the episode yet or are just starting out with the show, please move on.

Or if you're just not interested, you can move on, too. ;P

Ok, so, the way they left us hanging last year, in the Winter finale, was just plain cruel.
Monroe was taken by those dirty sons-of-guns and in this episode, we see that it's the same people who were threatening Rosalee on the phone and probably the ones who've been sending them threats throughout the season, as well. Apparently, they are incredibly against Wesen mixing with one another and they kind've prove it by killing people. Yes, they go that far.

As it turns out, they're a race of what we assume to be a bunch of Blutbads (so far, we only see the two brothers go Blutbad) that form a group called the Wesenrein and they have captured poor Monroe and are planning to kill him.
Their group is something of that of Nazis, as they have the flag/symbol that is very identical to the one the Nazis used. Now, I'm thinking these guys are no doubtedly connected to Hitler, maybe committed followers far down the line, cuz if one was paying attention to a previous episode some seasons before, they will see that when Nick was watching an old reel clip of the nefarious tyrant, they will see that Hitler turned into a Blutbad.

Well, these guys sure are jerks, for lack of a better clean word.
Especially the young brother, he annoys the bejesus out've me.
He was so stupid, though. He totally gave Monroe too much information to use against them, if that is the way they are playing it, which I do believe is possible.
Why show the young brother having a leader-complex and thinks (probably) that he'd be a better head-honcho than his big bro and then of course have them clash a bit over a little power struggle if they weren't planning on using this down the line? Perhaps Monroe can use this against them. We've already seen the brother is an emotional roller coaster, no doubt cuz he's a teenager, and he makes mistakes. So taking advantage of the obvious problems might help get him out of this.
Though to be honest, I am really worried about the future of Monroe.
Is he going to get out of this alive, or are the writers going to use this opportunity to create a shock factor and kill off the old boy? I certainly freaking hope not. Cuz Monroe is perfect and the whole show itself would not be the same without him. :((((

On to other things, I suspected the cop (Hacker) was definitely hiding something.
They number one showed him way too many times for him to be just nobody. They usually show people for a little bit, who are victims of attacks, or just reference them in later conversations, that are completely faultless. But no, they made him a big deal and I'd have no idea how, with the way the Wesenrein handle things, that he would even be alive. If they're quick enough to kill their own just so, then they'd definitely kill off some guy sitting outside of Monroe and Rosalee's house.
So yeah, he's a rat. Or, you know, whatever you are, Hacker. O_o Nail him, Nick.

SPEAKING OF ROSALEE, THOUGH.
That one scene with her and Juliette scared me.
I was literally about to scream and die and throw something at the TV if they just killed her like that.
When they were prolonging, I totally thought it was for real, for sure.
But fortunately, it WAS just a nightmare.
Still though, not cool to do that to our hearts.
And the whole thing with Terry was mega-sad, btw. I was really hoping he'd make it out of there alive.
But sadly, that was not the case. Hoping Monroe delivers that ring to him, eventually.
Also hoping these dirt-bag Nazi wannabes get creamed. I've had enough of them and they just showed up.
Impaling while burning people to death is not the way to go about business, guys.

Glad to see, though, that Nick is going through that Oxygen-saver thing where is skin turns a ghostly blue/grey/white? It's pretty cool. It mostly shows up when he's going through something intense.

Regarding Wu, I am so glad we finally got Truth Wu in this episode. Sad Wu, Crazy Wu, Mad Wu, Confused Wu, Weepy Wu and Suspicious Wu were starting to break my heart.
I like him joining the circle of the Grimmers. Kind've awkward when he speaks of it, but the same goes for Renard and Hank. It takes some getting used to.
Now he's back to Funny Wu and Sassy Wu and that pleases me, cuz he made some of the best jokes on the show. And btw, he really is handling the whole Wesen thing rather well.

I need to rewatch the episode with my parents (who I watched it with last night and all the nights previous) because there are a few things in the episode I missed and need to see. I didn't quite catch the scene, for instance, with the croc guy that Renard was talking to.

But no, the way they ended the episode was not nice. I definitely need more and it's only the next day.
WHY A WHOLE WEEK, WHY?
At least, though, I'll be getting my Mentalist Thursday and Grimm Friday back, now that it's back on. :)
I missed my weekly schedule. ♥

Yeah so, hoping everything goes smoothly this next episode and my suspicions are put to the grave that anyone remotely important is gonna die. Cuz I don't want anyone to die. They're all fabulous.

But dude, they have so many cliffhangers for things.
I'm hoping, for one, to see Trubel and Josh again. I miss those two.
They took them off just as I started to really love their characters and also where the two actually started to get any real chemistry.
I also am still waiting for that Jaguar lady to come back that Hank liked. They had a great storyline and I really liked them as a potential couple. Plus Hank hanging with her brother was the best thing. :/

There's a possibility also that Trubel and Josh might bump into Nick's mom on the way. Hoping, hoping that Nick's mom reveals that she is Trubel's mother or at least her aunt or something. There's a total possibility that Trubel is Nick's Aunt's child, which will mean that Trubel and Nick are cousins, though I personally like them better as brother and sister. I just think the two are way too much alike to NOT be related. I mean, gosh.

So for the next episode, I'm hoping things turn up for Monroe and the whole gang. I certainly don't want anyone to die. They scared me earlier this season for almost killing Renard, but he's still alive, so we'll see.
Looks like meh girl Rosalee is gonna get feisty with the old Nazi jerks and there's a possibility Juliette will have to go berserk and get all Wesen herself if this thing turns into a dangerous situation involving Nick.
I know it's probably wishful thinking, but I really would like for Monroe's parents to come along and beat the scrap out of these guys. That would be hilarious.
So many cliffhangers, I'm dying.

But my honeys, I am not liking the titles of any of these next episodes. :( Especially number 11.

Maximum Ride fans?

Nevermore is the last book of the series. I have the whole series except for this book.
The paperback is out. I was waiting all year for the paperback.
The paperback came out in February. It is now March.
And I still don't have it.
I NEED to get this, even IF it's completely rubbish.
It is my duty.

Besides this, is there anyone else who has read the books?
My nieces and a few of my friends were into them, so I got into them. My feelings are so mixed about the books, seriously. The characters can be so freaking annoying, I just wanna punch them all, right down to Angel. Who is not an Angel. Don't be deceived.
It took me awhile to like Max. But then I kind've lost all respect for her by FANG. No, actually, MAX.
It was MAX.
And don't even get me started on Fang.
Idk, I kind've love the concept of the storyline, but kind've really hate the characters themselves.
I guess the only true one I liked was Ari and Ari died. ;_;
Figures.
Total's pretty cool, too.

But yeah, let's just say because of this series, I am never making the mistake of getting into another young adult series again. Cuz they all drive me bunkers. Really, they are filled to the brim of vicious teen stereotypes. Like we all date, we all smooch with every other person alive, we all want to be popular and fit in and do stupid things like constant and there is no sane, level-headed adolescent out there.
*ahem* Excuse me, YA authors, GET OUT.
There are a-plenty teens-- even LITTLE CHILDREN-- out there who are even smarter than the majority of adults. I've seen dem hypocrites do some pretty dumb business of their own.
But anyway. I hate the whole general feel of some of the books because they go to school and meet other kids and do all these things that ehhh...when characters I feel responsible of start acting human, I get uncomfortable. Fang really became the lamest character when he was with that red-haired girl, when OBVIOUSLY he liked Max..and then he wound up choosing a clone over Max..and then he came back to her when that clone...I mean...if I was Max, if I was ANYONE, I wouldn't trust that boy to give me the time of day. Honestly. I seriously declare him the most annoying character in the series.
Angel irritated me just as much..but ugh. Dude. I'll get the book, but I'm not sure if I'll even be able to bring myself to reading it. I just, ugh.
Everything, ugh.

It's not just that I'm not a general supporter of dating, but having all the teenage characters basically act all flimsy as heck and going around with every other living breathing boy/girl, it's just, seriously.
Stop. It's annoying. So glad I don't date....relationships make me queasy. XD

Not sure if I really could pick a favorite, though. Yes, through out all of them, there are some parts I like, but the majority of the time, I can't stand anything.
But if I was to really pick a favorite out of the books, it'd probably have to be the first one.
Before the general sucky personalities of the characters came out. And especially before Ari died. ;_;

So...any Maximum Ride fans who also have a strong love/hate relationship with the series? XD

Star Wars Review

Star Wars is definitely one of my biggest obsessions ever. I've obsessed over it since I was eight, and I'm still obsessing over it now. Since I love Star Wars so much, I decided to explain why I love it.

Unfortunately, I never grew up with the movies. In a way I suppose I did, given that I watched them at a young age, but by the time I was born the only films shown in theaters were the Prequels. But I was well aware of the films. It was, and still is, a cultural phenomenon. I knew who Darth Vader was, who Princess Leia was, what lightsabers were, what the Force was...yet I had never seen the films.

And then, one faithful year (I believe it was in 2005), my Dad went out and bought all six Star Wars films. Yep, all six of them. They were really popular back when my Mom was born (which was around the same time the Original Trilogy came out). But anyway...Dad got the DVDs because I guess he thought the films were good (based on its mass popularity), and wanted to watch it. By that time, of course, "Revenge of The Sith" was already out--we had to decide on which film trilogy to watch first; the Prequels, in chronological order, or the Originals, in actual order.

In the end, we chose the Prequels.

I remember how fascinated I became during the films. They were so GOOD! I was only eight back then, but I knew its genius. It is very original, engaging, thought-provoking...it was the ultimate film. I was throughly entertained throughout all the films, I believe.

And that's when my fandom was born.

I can't remember exactly when I realized that I was obsessed; unfortunately, I think it was only a few years ago! But I was obsessed, trust me. I spent hours upon hours on Wookiepedia, the unofficial Star Wars wikia; I pretended to be the characters with my siblings; I reenacted the Battle of Genosis from "Attack Of The Clones"; I made fanfictions before I even knew what they were; I connected EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, to the films.

Yeah, I had a problem. And I still do, because I can't look at a Star Wars related item without fangirling.

But anyway, that's just about my fandom's birth. Let's get to why I am obsessed with this wonderful film.

Simply put it, Star Wars is the ultimate film for me. It's filled with action, adventure, romance, drama, thought-provoking themes, cool battle sequences, a fantastical universe...it's amazing. I literally can be taken to another world with this series. Just like our own world, too, it can't be classified in one sort of genre; indeed, Star Wars becomes its own.

I really love how original Star Wars is, too. I have NEVER seen a film series like it--sure, it has parallels, but is there any one film that it's inspired by? No. Star Wars is inspired by many, many different things. I think that's what makes it so great. Its inspirations make it relatable, yet it also manages to make itself original in its own way.

The best thing about Star Wars, I believe, is how thought-provoking it is. Yes, you've got your Jedi and Sith, your atypical "good" and "bad" guys, but guess what--no one is purely evil or good. Looking at all the films, especially "Revenge of The Sith" and "Return of The Jedi", and you'll see that there are many, many shades of grey. Heroes struggle to do the right thing; villains (or in this case, just Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) realize that their evilness is not the right path to go. It shows you that we're all just human, and that things like fear can lead us to dark paths. Remember what Yoda said: Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, and suffering ultimately leads to the dark side.

I also love how deep the characters are. Everyone's got layers, especially Anakin. I mean, is he good or evil? I suppose you could say he was "good" for most of the Prequels and "bad" for most of the Originals, but is that really true? And all the other characters have their own internal issues and inner demons to face. They just feel so real, and I love it when a fictional character comes to life.

And the universe in Star Wars--oh my gosh! It feels. So. Real. Like I could actually be transported to this galaxy far, far away. It actually exists in that wishful thinking part of my brain. I can imagine, if I let my imagination stretch that far, the universe actually existing. The characters are realistic, their problems are realistic, the wars are realistic...it's all REAL. And that's what makes a great universe.

Of course, in spite of my praise, I must admit, sadly, that the films aren't perfect. I know a lot of people have said this, but the Originals were better than the Prequels! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Prequels--in fact, I obsess over them more than the Originals--but it wasn't as entertaining as a film series. I think there was too much going on in the Prequels, so they didn't feel as interesting (except ROTS, of course :D). The Originals were simpler, and to a point I don't like that as much, but they were easier to follow. I literally had NO idea what was going on in "The Phantom Menace"when I was kid, except that the "evil" people were trying to kill the Jedi. And then there was the Jar Jar Binks character--need I say more? :P

Nevertheless, the Star Wars saga is fantastic. The whole storyline of the entire series is wonderful. It stays in my brain forever; I constantly make references to it; I quote from it; I even use it as metaphors sometimes! (I told you the films were deep!) I think that Star Wars is such a great series that it will forever remain a place in my heart--and at the current moment, it is my biggest obsession.
