Day 4: Fabulous Females

Three more to the set! ♥

Merida

Come on, you know I had to add her!
It's Merida, dude! She's a total adorable tomboy, a wild spirit and a lovely little human being.
No matter who you are, you gotta love Merida. She may be a princess, but she acts like every other commoner, with a childish and playful demeanor.

What I love most about her was how realistic they made her. She's stubborn and rebellious like every other teenager, but she refused to conform to ancient tradition, being an arranged marriage, because that's not what she wanted for her life. She wanted to find someone to share her loves and be happy with, who understood her and her unlady like behavior. She proceeded to do the wrong thing to get her way and because of that, the consequences of her decision almost cost her mother.
In the nick of time, she and her mother both learned their own lessons and began to understand one another.

While she may have made wrong choices, the beauty of her personality is that she realized she was wrong. She was growing. She was learning. She was experiencing life, as we all do. She made bad decisions, but once she realized this, she quickly tried to put them to right and she fought like heck for it.
Once more, her relationship with her mother was beautifully done, even making me emotional. She had the bond that a lot of mothers and daughters share. It's a struggle. You may fight a lot and don't agree with everything eachother says, but in the end, you're still family and you still love one another.
And no matter what you both say or do, you don't wanna watch the other suffer or go.
So, she had great character development, in that case.

Another thing I love about her is her totally wild, tomboyish spirit.
She fought, she played with swords, bow and arrows, roughed around with her brothers, and did things girls kind've just did not do. But that's the awesome part about her. She refused to live like other princesses, like other girls-- she set her own path.
And people who say this means she likes girls?
Nuh uh. Those bozos don't know what they're talking about.
I get so tired of the same tune being sung about girls like this.
Just because you're different from other girls, doesn't mean it means what you think it means. She wants to be herself and that's tough. If she has more boyish qualities, that's fine. She's clearly wanting to be in a relationship, but just with someone she chooses. I'm sure those weren't the only three dudes in Scotland. She probably wants someone manly, and brave, and capable, like her.
Pay attention to one part where she peeks at one of the men...no, not the boys they put in the spotlight.. the one that one of the Scotland Lords was supposedly describing, as his son.

She took notice. XD So she clearly is attracted to someone big and strong.
Sooooo stop with the same card, guys. You're killing me.

But you know, it's hard not to love Merida at least a little. She's awesome. ♥

Tauriel

Don't even get me started on the ridiculous rants of the purists. I respect that people want things to be as they are in books (or just in originals) but to completely down the character and the actor and everything having to do with them was just down right wrong. There have been plenty of original characters for films or otherwise who have been spectacular. I mean, c'mon, it's not like she was a walking banana who liked rock and roll. She was an elf who fit the graceful nature of her species quite nicely. There were other elves in the forest, y'know, not just Thranduil. And naturally, Legolas was around too, SINCE HE WAS HIS SON.
But I am a firm supporter of her. Her character fit right into the cast, as if she really were one of the originals.
So just...stop. Stop complaining. It's rude.

And yes, I have her on here. Cuz I loved her. She was awesome. She was a fighter, she was loyal, she was all the makings of a good role model. They did an excellent job on her, and yes, to be honest, a little bit of a female presence was refreshing. It's not like they didn't exist or anything.

Unlike others, I was alright with the relationship between her and Kili. It was fine, it was fine.
What I had a problem with was how they made him die for her. Like, what?
No, no, no, that was just wayyy too cliche and just..no.
That's one of the things that made Fili and Kili's deaths all the more tragic was when they essentially sacrificed themselves, trying to defend Thorin.
But no, they had to go and make Kili die for Tauriel, uggghhh, no. Not ok.
That just kind've ruined the moment for me, so no, I did not cry.
That's one of the things with the deaths of LOTR is that they get an emotional response from me because they happen the way they're supposed to happen.
I would've preferred her to fight hard to try and find him in the chaos of the battle, and him and Fili died trying to defend their uncle..and then she find his body and cry. That probably would've been a heck of a lot sadder for me and I would've shed some tears. But noooo, die for the girl, nope nope nope, way too cliche.

Despite all that, I still loved her character. She was an awesome addition to the series and I love all her lines and determination. :) Hopefully her and Legolas eventually hooked up. XD
Love ya, girl!

BA DUM, DUM. Done for now!!

Day 4: Best of the Disney Films

Three more posts to this set. ;) Let's continue with the first!

Aladdin

*8.5
*Much of this amazing classic is suitable mostly for entertainment purposes rather than get preachy, however there are a few strong themes that one can take from; the power of friendship, respect and loyalty, for one. Aladdin and Genie were the best of pals and Genie was there for him whenever he needed help.
Second is the subject that someone's social status shouldn't dictate whether you should love them or not. Despite being poor, Aladdin had just as much a good heart as he would were he powerful.
Jasmine recognized this and the two fell for one another. And throughout all the trials, they eventually found a way to be together. He also didn't have to play prince in order to impress her. He just needed to be himself. Another is, well, be careful what you wish for. Cuz it might be exactly what you wish for.
*I just love this one so much. It's very well done and has a great feel and direction about it. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't love Aladdin?!

Tron: LEGACY

*8.5
*If you pay attention, this actually has a lot of Christian comparisons I'd probably have to name sometime. But other than that, there aren't too many messages around. It is a great film, though..
*I know how this movie got bad reviews and I don't even understand. How can you not love it?!
It was spectacular! The graphics, the acting, the storyline, EVERYTHING, it all looks so pretty and digital and you can not deny the awesomeness of the soundtrack. ♥ The characters are also portrayed so well. I loved almost everybody and was incredibly sad when almost all of them were killed off. :( One of the cons of this film, to be sure. But that doesn't stop me from absolutely loving it.

Day 4: Movies I Could Watch Again and Again

We're coming close to the end of our first Geek Week.
This is has been an awesome experience, to say the least. :)

9. Pacific Rim

Dude, this movie is so, SO underrated!
It even got my buddy Aja liking it!
Ok, ok, if you haven't seen it, you really need to. If the trailer didn't do it for you, which I don't understand why it wouldn't, you really need to see it and give it a chance. Because it is utter awesomeness.
When I first saw the trailer, I had no clue it was based on a graphic novel series. In fact, I didn't find that out until after I saw the movie. In any case, they did a fabulous job.

Even though it's about aliens and robots, it's story is so unique. One of it's biggest positive aspects is the character development. It has great characters and portrayal, and it's so easy to love all three the humans, the robots and the aliens, because all of them are so different compared to other sets of characters.
Like, oh my gosh, I can not even. I fangirl every time I watch it.
It has brilliant sci-fi scenes and elements, beautiful graphics and design. They put in such amazing detail not only in the artwork, but also in the props and the film's settings.
And most importantly, the story pulls you in. You can't help but love everyone and just how different everything is. It's so fresh and you really connect with the characters.

Also what I love about it is that Mako and Raleigh had one of the best relationships ever built between two perfect strangers and they didn't even kiss once.
They had loyalty and friendship and attraction and honor and understanding and love and they didn't even have to smooch or get weird to show it. They're perfect, yo. I love 'em.

But dude, I just, you don't even understand. Just see it.
The characters, the plot, the background, the CGI, the robots, the aliens, the everything, amazing.
And yes, I give it a 10/10. bwaaaaaa.

10. Super 8

The general reason why I adored this film was because it was yet another masterpiece involving film making.
I've always loved movies about three of my passions; writing, acting and film making.
And this one is bloody brilliant.

Sure, the language is over the top, especially being said mostly by kids, but let's face it, that's reality.
Kids younger than me have said some dang nasty things that I would never say in my life.
But y'know, no.
All those kids are fabulous. I love the whole cast. Every last one of them.
The emotional backgrounds and scenes of Joe and Alice were terrific. They really reel you in to connect with them and the scene where Alice cries makes me cry.
They each portray their character so well that it's almost as if they're real people running around in this type of situation. The plot involves aliens, of course, which was what originally drew me on board to see the film, but it takes a rather interesting turn when you find out more about the oh-so-terrible alien.
In his eyes, we, as humans, were so cruel to him that he saw no good in us and we were all the same, so he took his revenge for all the bad they did to him, but it all turned around when he saw the goodness in Joe's heart and how Joe reminded him that "you can still live", which basically means, bad things happen, but we don't have to destroy ourselves and others because of it. We can still live, we can move on and instead of doing bad, do good. Nobody innocent has to suffer just because we do.
And that was an excellent message to squeeze in there.
I really liked how they turned things around for the alien and didn't villainize him completely.

I mean, gosh, though, the kids were absolute jewels. Yeah, I wanna smack 'em around at times and wash their mouths out with soap, but they were fantastic. Joe was pretty much the only one who didn't sit there and speak like the others; he was calm, mature and such a sweetie. You really feel for the kid when you see more about his mom. And him and his dad's relationship was an interesting one to watch play out.
The strain between both Joe and Alice's fathers was a great addition. The realism in all the relationships between the characters had a good impact on the way you saw the film. You got emotionally connected to the characters in a positive way and actually cared where they went or what happened to them.

The movie itself is mixed in with good amounts of humor and suspense and really pulls you in, waiting to see what happens. I'd give it a 9.5. Great for nightly entertainment. ^_^

11. Speed Racer

Ok, you have no right to judge me, but I thought this one rocked.
I'm not even a fan of racing or movies ABOUT racing, but I just love this movie.

Ohhh, yes, it has plenty of shares of flaws. But if there's one thing you've found out about me in this Geek Week so far, it's that I get easily pleased. I love things despite all the wrongs in it, as long as it appeals to me in the slightest, I'm in and I'm loyal.
I can't help but get mesmerized by how flashy and stylish it is. It's a rather stunning look, the graphics.
The background and scenery and visual effects makes everything look almost like it's sprung out from a comic book. I never watched the original Speed Racer (naturally, I heard a great deal about it), but that didn't stop me from wanting to see this one. It's trailer really stuck out to me and at the time, we were in short supply of films being made based on classic cartoons, so I was excited.

So when I started to watch it, I could tell there were lots of parts that were like..you know...the thing seemed odd, but only because it was different and I wasn't used to the type of storytelling and characterization the creators were prone to. I watched it that first time and enjoyed it well enough.
But by the next go, that was it. I was in love. :)

Despite it's source material, they didn't treat it with a hidden disrespect.
They stayed true to the original story, while not making every single thing ridiculous and silly.
It was well beyond entertaining and actually quite a ride (excuse the pun) when you're watching it in the dark and all those vivid, bright colors pop up on the screen.
The actors did well with what they got and made it fun and comical. The mixture of different moods, especially having to do with competition and humor, was done well.
You've gotta love Speed and Trixie, though, since they were the cutest cuties.
And I severely, to this day, want Matthew Fox as Batman, because he would do perfect.

So yeah, it gets cheesy and has it's moments of flaws, but if you're anything like me, you'll love it simply because it's a good strange, colorful and witty film.
I give it a 7.5. ^^

12. King Kong

Another film involving a filmmaker subplot that I just adore Peter Jackson for adding.
But no, bro, this film is amazing.

I'm not even kidding, it's one of the best experiences I've had watching a movie.
Everything about it is so thrilling and the story comes together so spectacularly.
I love what they did with the characters and the direction, even though the ending is bloody sad and makes me blubber like a baby, the film in itself has a beautiful quality.
The look, the acting, the suspense, the action, it's like wow.

Ann Darrow was incredible. She really made you care, with just how sweet and honest, but strong and capable she was. And I love the way her and Kong connected. Almost like Beauty and the Beast.
While it wasn't love on her side, she really, truly cared for him and did everything she could to protect him.
Her and Jack made a great couple, too. Jack had a great character. He had his own issues, but at least he was willing to go and try to save Ann, not refusing to give up, and that took guts given the island's harsh environment (...and inhabitants). But he had such sass and a can-do attitude, it's hard not to fall for his charm.

The rest of the characters you really have to see past the annoying attitudes to be able to like them.
I loved what they did with Kong, though. They gave him the right level of emotion over all that happened to him, almost showing a human side of him the audience hadn't seen before. And the fact that the rest of his kind all died off made his passing all the more tragic.
The ending, like I said, makes me blubber like a fish. Or maybe I said baby, but I'm going with fish.
Sure, Peter, make it aS BLOODY SAD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, AND JUST GO AHEAD AND RIP MY HEART OUT, WHY DON'T CHYA?
uuugggggghhhhhh

But yes, the acting, the characters, the look, the feel, the work they put into everything, the story, the direction, the everrytthhiiinnggg.
Fabulous. All fabulous.
9.9
bam.

That is all for now. You may be excused.

My Favorite Bad Guy and Good Guy from Heroes: Reborn - Luke Collins & Quentin

I've only seen one episode of this, and I'm already in love with it. I have to say though that I'd suggest watching Heroes before Heroes: Reborn, because... things happen, man. THINGS HAPPEN.
*ahem* Anyways. It takes place a few years after the last episode of Heroes, and I don't want to give much away. But yeahhhh...
My actual favorite character in this is the villain: Luke Collins.

Yes, this is Zachary Levi. <3 No, that's not the reason I love Luke. The reason I love him so stinkin' much is because he's just so mysterious. It's kind of like this, "I HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE, BUT I LOVE YOU." Seriously guys, if you watched it you would understand what I mean. My mind is reeling trying to figure out who he is. There are just these tiny hints in there, and I'm just like, "WHAT DOES IT MEANNNN??!!"
He doesn't have powers, as far as I know anyways. O.O
I have to say that this is probably of Zac's best performances. It's keeping me interested by showing who he seems to be, but also curious by showing who he might be. I just wanna know who he is dang it! >.<
Fortunately there's an episode tonight, so I'm okay.

But my favorite good guy is Quentin.

Having watch the webisode series, I've grown to love this guy more and more. He's human, and is just trying to save his sister, man! He's got great development, and I can't wait to see what happens with his story line. ^.^
Yeah, I don't have much else to say about him. But he's just awesome. :)

TO BE CONTINUED...

(Hahaha... just kidding.)

My Favorite Good Guy and Bad Guy from Heroes - Hiro Nakamura & Sylar

If you've never seen Heroes, it's about these people who discover that they have powers. Most of which don't even know each other. They're hunted by these people part of a company called Primatech, which is only thought of by outsiders as just a paper company, who are trying to cover up the fact that people with powers (who are later referred to as Evos) exist.

My favorite among these heroes (and also my actual favorite among all the characters) is:
Hiro Nakamura.
Art by Margalot

He's a SuperHiro!! ;) His power is space-time manipulation (basically he can freeze and travel through time, and teleport). He used to work for his father, but was bored out of his mind. He accidentally travels through time to find out that New York City is going to explode. Which he tries to figure out how to save the city. Thus, his main phrase is, "Save the cheerleader, save the world."
He's basically the start of the hero movement, and though he might not seem like much of a leader, being quirky, nerdy, and geeky all into one character, he's really a true leader in all of what happens in Heroes. He's my favorite character for multiple reasons.
1) He's sweet as all get out. I mean, look at how adorable he is! But still has this hardcore part of him that fights with a sword all epicly and stuffs.
2) He wants to save the world. He's a true hero in my books.
3) He says some pretty hilarious things.
4) I like his story better than all the rest. Mostly because he's actually WANTING to be a hero, unlike some of the other people in the show.
He's just an all around awesome guy, and I love his interaction with his best friend, Ando. <3 Those two make quite a team. ^.^

Then my favorite villain is Sylar. You might recognize him.

Yep, the notorious Spock goes rogue. He's a pretty epic bad guy if you ask me. He has the power to steal other evos powers, and by steal... I mean he has to slice their head open to get their powers... in other words... he has to kill them. Sounds kinda creepy, I know. XD But he's still pretty awesome. He doesn't work for anybody, and it tends to stay that way. He works for only himself, and all he wants is more powers, because he gets these intense cravings just to kill people for their powers. I'm dead serious guys.
Zachary Quinto does an awesome job of portraying this character in the creepiest way possible, I have to say if I had seen Heroes before the new Star Trek, I wouldn't have been able to get passed the fact that it was Sylar. That's how good he was at being bad.
Thus, the reason he's my favorite bad guy. :) Because he's just awesome at being bad. ^.^

TO BE CONTINUED...

Day 3: Villainous Villains

Hello, my precious subjects. ♥

Imhotep

Evil Scale: 6.9

A worthy candidate in my line of villains, Imhotep's whole character is meant to give you chills.
Even though in life, he was but a mere Egyptian priest; as a mummy, he was powerful, terrifying and a great deal of wowzers son, just cold.
The man literally sucked the life out of his victims to become whole again and then just kills whoever else he sees fit. Then he turns hundreds of innocents into his slaves and like...he's a baddie.
But the only thing that stops him from being completely evil and devoid of any kind of compassion is his one motivation; his love for Anck-Su-Namun.

While he had done everything for her and the whole basis of the series was because he had a rather unhealthy obsession for her (no kidding, bro), as soon as she turn-coated him, he gave up and let himself fall back into death. In essence, she was his only drive and once she was no longer willing to be there for him, as he was always repeatedly coming back for her and had her as the center of his universe, well..that was it for him. A completely devoid-of-all-emotion villain would continue his work, even after rejection.
They'd just keep killing and killing and killing.
Yes, he was definitely evil. But to an extent.
You can say, she's the one who activated his desire. He killed for her even in life, therefore their relationship is basically founded on death and wrong-doing.
Perhaps you can take away from it a sign that a relationship stemming from evil can not last.
That a love such as their's that hasn't any kind of good involved in it isn't true love at all.
Yes, there's an obvious care for one another and no doubt a natural attraction, but in the end, loyalty is key, and she showed none for him. And in turn, he showed none for her.

So, a villain driven by his burning love for someone, even in death. Who kills horribly and has next to zero compassion and mercy for those around him, unless it suits him...relationship issues or not, Imhotep is pretty bad.

Bane

Evil Scale: 7.0

True, he isn't like his monstrous original self, but I think this one is my favorite version of Bane yet.
Like Heath's Joker, Tom's Bane is his own invention and despite not following comic protocol, they both still manage to come up with an outstanding performance that increases the awesomeness and seriousness of the movies they take part in. But the most interesting part of his character is that he isn't like other villains. Not a hulking, mindless brute, or an intelligent, spineless pushover.
He's an incredibly skilled and calculating criminal mind with immense power and strength.
He's a super smart brute, in other words.
The original Bane is awesome, but I like the depth of his character here, and that he actually gets a straight background. A background that makes sense.

He's another one of those villains who's actions are motivated for someone they love.
In this case, it's for a girl who completely friendzones him from the start.
He literally gave up everything for Talia and she still didn't even accept him as anything more than a friend or brother. It even made the man cry, so, it's kinda hard not to feel for the guy.

Like Imhotep, despite his love for the girl he loves, he's still a frickin' evil dude.
Every action he made was cold, cruel and merciless.
He saw people as pawns and unlike Imhotep, he was all for an agenda outside of his girl.
He fully believed what he preached with all his heart and took every step possible to make sure it was executed, accordingly. And the way he killed was just spine-tingling.
He was ferocious and deadly and almost unbeatable...unless you're Batman, of course.
But his behavior outside of his brutish exterior was the complete polar opposite. Almost that of a gentleman.
Giving him unexpected manners and a proper atmosphere was a great way to mix in a bit of a balance so he wasn't so one-dimensional in his character. It wasn't done in an overboard fashion, either.
Everything he said and did was well-timed and I fully disagree with people when they say he didn't have any catchy lines. I mean, c'mon, tell that to all the memes he spawned.

He was brilliantly written, in my opinion, and a worthy successor to the Joker's triumphant former reign.
He was the perfect villain for the last of the DK trilogy, because he was honestly the most dangerous.
He was cunning, powerful and a real threat to Bruce. Out of all the villains, he came the farthest to nearly destroying Bruce completely. He was absolutely horrible.

So, was Bane a good bad guy? He murdered hundreds of people, snapped necks of those he didn't really find all that useful anymore, turned Gotham into a madhouse, released thousands of criminals out into the open to help terrorize the Gotham citizens, beat to a pulp and broke Bruce's back, then tossed him into the pit and made him sit and watch as Bane destroyed his city...and millions of other things that just don't excuse tears.I think yes. Bane is a very good bad guy.

God Bless,
