Day 3: Villainous Villains

Hello, my precious subjects. ♥


Imhotep

Evil Scale: 6.9

A worthy candidate in my line of villains, Imhotep's whole character is meant to give you chills.
Even though in life, he was but a mere Egyptian priest; as a mummy, he was powerful, terrifying and a great deal of wowzers son, just cold.
The man literally sucked the life out of his victims to become whole again and then just kills whoever else he sees fit. Then he turns hundreds of innocents into his slaves and like...he's a baddie.
But the only thing that stops him from being completely evil and devoid of any kind of compassion is his one motivation; his love for Anck-Su-Namun.

While he had done everything for her and the whole basis of the series was because he had a rather unhealthy obsession for her (no kidding, bro), as soon as she turn-coated him, he gave up and let himself fall back into death. In essence, she was his only drive and once she was no longer willing to be there for him, as he was always repeatedly coming back for her and had her as the center of his universe, well..that was it for him. A completely devoid-of-all-emotion villain would continue his work, even after rejection.
They'd just keep killing and killing and killing.
Yes, he was definitely evil. But to an extent.
You can say, she's the one who activated his desire. He killed for her even in life, therefore their relationship is basically founded on death and wrong-doing.
Perhaps you can take away from it a sign that a relationship stemming from evil can not last.
That a love such as their's that hasn't any kind of good involved in it isn't true love at all.
Yes, there's an obvious care for one another and no doubt a natural attraction, but in the end, loyalty is key, and she showed none for him. And in turn, he showed none for her.



So, a villain driven by his burning love for someone, even in death. Who kills horribly and has next to zero compassion and mercy for those around him, unless it suits him...relationship issues or not, Imhotep is pretty bad.


Bane

Evil Scale: 7.0

True, he isn't like his monstrous original self, but I think this one is my favorite version of Bane yet.
Like Heath's Joker, Tom's Bane is his own invention and despite not following comic protocol, they both still manage to come up with an outstanding performance that increases the awesomeness and seriousness of the movies they take part in. But the most interesting part of his character is that he isn't like other villains. Not a hulking, mindless brute, or an intelligent, spineless pushover.
He's an incredibly skilled and calculating criminal mind with immense power and strength.
He's a super smart brute, in other words.
The original Bane is awesome, but I like the depth of his character here, and that he actually gets a straight background. A background that makes sense.




He's another one of those villains who's actions are motivated for someone they love.
In this case, it's for a girl who completely friendzones him from the start.
He literally gave up everything for Talia and she still didn't even accept him as anything more than a friend or brother. It even made the man cry, so, it's kinda hard not to feel for the guy.




Like Imhotep, despite his love for the girl he loves, he's still a frickin' evil dude.
Every action he made was cold, cruel and merciless.
He saw people as pawns and unlike Imhotep, he was all for an agenda outside of his girl.
He fully believed what he preached with all his heart and took every step possible to make sure it was executed, accordingly. And the way he killed was just spine-tingling.
He was ferocious and deadly and almost unbeatable...unless you're Batman, of course.
But his behavior outside of his brutish exterior was the complete polar opposite. Almost that of a gentleman.
Giving him unexpected manners and a proper atmosphere was a great way to mix in a bit of a balance so he wasn't so one-dimensional in his character. It wasn't done in an overboard fashion, either.
Everything he said and did was well-timed and I fully disagree with people when they say he didn't have any catchy lines. I mean, c'mon, tell that to all the memes he spawned.



He was brilliantly written, in my opinion, and a worthy successor to the Joker's triumphant former reign.
He was the perfect villain for the last of the DK trilogy, because he was honestly the most dangerous.
He was cunning, powerful and a real threat to Bruce. Out of all the villains, he came the farthest to nearly destroying Bruce completely. He was absolutely horrible.



So, was Bane a good bad guy? He murdered hundreds of people, snapped necks of those he didn't really find all that useful anymore, turned Gotham into a madhouse, released thousands of criminals out into the open to help terrorize the Gotham citizens, beat to a pulp and broke Bruce's back, then tossed him into the pit and made him sit and watch as Bane destroyed his city...and millions of other things that just don't excuse tears.I think yes. Bane is a very good bad guy.

Autumn Funko Pop! Line-Up..

If you love funkos as much as I do, you'll be happy to hear about the newest line-ups coming in September/October! The Sherlock ones' release dates are currently undetermined, but it's been rumored that they're going to be released in October, so we'll see!

But at least we have Wanda! :) I believe she will also be coming in September.

Suicide Squad first look...

Not that long ago, the first trailer for Suicide Squad was released.
Thought I'd share it cuz I know a lot of people are excited to see it and some are trying to track it down quickly. And I wanted to voice a little of my opinion on things without you guys wondering what in the heck I was talking about.



I'm just a smidge, A SMIDGE, impressed with the portrayals of the characters. I'm still not completely sold on Harley, but the Joker looks pretty sick and just *might* be a good younger portrayal.
Nevertheless, I'm still not seeing the movie, but I am slightly impressed with the way everyone's being handled. The trailer is also put together rather well.
And I most definitely have to find the song. It's so dark and creepy and I love it. XDDD

What do you guys think? Will you be seeing it next year? I'll be a full-fledged 21 year old by then and be doing lots of adulting, so who knows with me.. I might see it just for the heck of it. With more trailers and pics and everything, my feelings will possibly change.
All I know now is that I'm at an impressed stage, but that's all.

Teen Titans Review

Teen Titans was one of my favorite shows growing up as a kid. I remember the day when I first started watching it: While flipping through channels on Cartoon Network, my siblings and I stumbled upon an episode of Teen Titans. We immediately recognized Robin from the Batman comics/series/films but were unfamiliar with the rest. From thereon, though, we became avid fans of the series.

I still enjoy Teen Titans today. Admittedly it is cheesy at times, and some of the episodes just feel silly to me, but overall I think it was a pretty well-done show. The last episode wasn't my favorite, but most of them were, on average, decent (some better/worse than others, of course).

The show is mainly cool because of its characters. You've got Robin, the first-in-command who can sometimes let his stubbornness get in the way but is overall a good leader; Cyborg, the goofy, sometimes immature yet lovable second-in-command; Raven, the dark, mysterious, but well-meaning person who's somewhat reserved; Starfire, the happy-go-lucky, bright, optimistic alien who's still adjusting to Earth; and finally, Beast Boy, a green jokester who's always trying to impress girls. Each and every character has his/her own personality, which makes them stand out. They're not one-dimensional, and I'm not even sure if they'e two-dimensional. The characters occasionally do things that will surprise you (namely Robin and Raven, whose story arcs are somewhat dark). Fleshed-out characters always make a good show.

Some of the villains were as equally as interesting as the heroes. Slade (or Deathstroke, deepening on if you're familiar with the comics or not) is the most interesting villain in the series; his mystique and manipulation always intrigued me. Brotherblood has to be the next most interesting villain, with the way he also manipulated Cyborg into giving him what he wants--to become fully human. Jinx wasn't as clever as these characters, but she's always been a fun villain (along with the rest of the Hive Five members). Other notable characters include Overdrive, Dr. Light, Trigon, Control Freak,

Teen Titans also wouldn't be the show it was if it didn't have those occasional dramatic, shocking, and deep episodes. Not all of them were like this, but some were. The characters' motives in these episodes sometimes change, and it's hard to tell where they really stand. Robin had a lot of this during his time of being the apprentice of Slade, as well as becoming Red-X; Raven fought against her dark destiny in the epic The End trilogy; and Terra is the most notable character to suffer through this. Even if it's not the characters having shades of grey, it deals with them struggling against something (such as Cyborg wanting to become the leader of his own team, for example). These wonderful episodes I'm referring to include the following: The End (three-parter), The Apprentice (Part 1 and 2), Brotherblood, The Beast Within, Aftershock (and most episodes dealing with Terra, for that matter), and Titans East (another two-parter).

In spite of how much I liked it, however, it did have its faults (just like every other television series, of course). Some episodes were just plain silly or weird. These were mostly Beast Boy episodes, unfortunately, and I think that's why he became my least favorite titan. From "Every Dog Has Its Day" to that completely bizarre episode revolving around an evil tofu who mind-controlled cows (at least I think that was what it was about), the writers gave Beast Boy some of the worst story arcs. Luckily he had some good ones ("The Beast Within" was awesome, as were the Terra-centric episodes), but overall his episodes were either mediocre or just not enjoyable to me. These episodes weren't just limited to Beast Boy, however; Robin had his fair share in the episode with Larry (*cringes*). Starfire had that really weird episode when she started mutating into a weird creature ("Transformation"). Although I believe this was a Beast Boy episode, Cyborg was acting really strange in the episode when BB accidentally installed a virus inside of him. Raven had an episode dealing with little kids that I didn't love, but none of her episodes annoyed me. And all of the titans had the episode with Mon Moth, which was okay I guess but kind of weird.

The show also had some weird animation gags at times, most notable with the characters' heads got big or whatever. I think it's something common in Anime shows, but I guess I just don't have the same kind of humor the Japanese do. But of course we have hearts and fires in people's eyes whenever they're in love or angry, so I suppose the Japanese may find that weird :P So that's really just a cultural difference thing, but whatever…

But overall Teen Titans was a good series. I'd watch many episodes again, as most of them were average. I mean, I'd rather have them all be superb, but when you have to choose between one extreme and another, I'd choose average. I must admit that, while I do find the  Teen Titans Go! series occasionally funny, it's just not the same as the Teen Titans I grew up with. I guess it's because I would rather have more of an action/adventure series as opposed to a comedic one. But anyway, let's not get off-topic. Teen Titans is a pretty good series that I will occasionally watch for reruns, laughs, and an interesting storyline.
